John Turner

John Turner is a mediator who grasps the real dispute beneath the noise and works it into something solvable. His approach reflects a cross-disciplinary background in law, investment, and business operations, allowing him to understand the legal, financial, and human dimensions that shape complex commercial conflicts.

Investment career

Before founding Turner ADR, John spent more than a decade in private equity and special situations investing. As co-founder of Rockstreet Partners, he oversaw sourcing, underwriting, and portfolio management for a real estate investment platform that grew to more than $320 million in assets. The role required evaluating risk, aligning diverse stakeholder interests, and making decisions in high-pressure environments where legal, financial, and operational considerations converged.

After selling Rockstreet, John founded AltaMesa Capital Management, a firm focused on non-performing loans, distressed assets, and financial restructurings. His work involved navigating competing claims, resolving operational and capital-structure challenges, and managing complex negotiations among investors, lenders, and operating partners.

Legal career

Earlier in his career, John served as Managing Director and General Counsel of Phoenix Capital Partners, where he led capital formation, structured joint ventures, and oversaw regulatory compliance for private equity real estate funds. His experience operating at the intersection of law and investment continues to inform his work as a neutral in business disputes.

John began his career as a commercial litigator at Locke Lord LLP and Gruber Hurst Johanson Hail Shank LLP, where he handled disputes involving financial services, private equity, restrictive covenants, real estate transactions, and business torts. He served as lead and second-chair trial counsel in multimillion-dollar jury trials and arbitrations, giving him a practical understanding of how cases are built, valued, and resolved.

Government service

He clerked for the Hon. John McBryde, U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Texas, supporting the Court’s resolution of federal civil matters and drafting opinions on dispositive motions and bench trial findings. His earlier public service includes work as a Legislative Aide to U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and service as an infantryman in the United States Army.

Education

John holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
