Andy Turner is a trusted mediator and arbitrator with decades of experience resolving complex disputes with creativity, efficiency, and a steady hand. Drawing on more than 30 years as a litigator and strategic advisor in employment, commercial, and probate matters, Andy brings deep legal insight and a pragmatic, approachable style to every case.

Mediation practice

Andy has been a go-to mediator for decades. He received his mediation training from the prestigious National Institute for Mediation & Training in 2002, after which he was invited by the NIMT to help provide mediation training across the United States. His extensive and varied background in employment law, health law, probate and commercial matters, coupled with his skills and experience in the court room, provide him great insight into what it takes to resolve cases. He brings creativity and humor to bear in highly charged conflicts that help his mediation clients get to yes.

Legal career

For more than 30 years, Andy has been a trusted, strategic adviser to companies throughout the country on the full range of labor and employment matters, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, class and collective actions, leaves of absence, employment agreements and policies, union campaigns, collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, and workplace safety. During his career in Big Law, he was one of the go-to trial lawyers for his internationally renowned Labor and Employment firm. For the last several years, his emphasis was on non-compete and trade secret litigation, heading his firm’s Texas Restrictive Covenants Practice Group.

Andy’s experience is broad-based. He regularly advises employers on complying with the myriad laws affecting today’s workplace, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (wage and hour), the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Title VII, and similar state discrimination statutes. He also .advises employers regarding traditional labor matters, including collective bargaining, unfair labor practice charges, and grievance arbitrations.

Following law school, Andy joined a prominent Little Rock based firm where he became a partner in the firm’s Labor, Employment and Health law section. In 1998, he became a shareholder with a boutique Labor and Employment firm in Dallas, which merged with an international Labor and Employment firm in 2000. Andy had a short stint as a named partner with a Dallas boutique litigation firm, where he continued his employment practice (representing plaintiffs and defendants) and expanded his practice to include commercial and probate litigation, before returning to his L&E firm in 2008. Andy has for many years been recognized by his peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America in the field of labor and employment law. Andy’s legal career exposed him to a wide range of matters, touching all aspects of employment and traditional labor law. He has extensive experience litigating employment and commercial matters in state and federal courts throughout the country, including Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Florida, and Louisiana. As head of his firm’s Texas Restrictive Covenants Practice Group, he developed substantial experience designing and enforcing covenants not to compete and non-recruitment covenants to prevent the misuse of a company’s trade secrets and confidential information. He regularly represented companies and individuals in injunction proceedings relating to those matters.

Education

Andy received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Baylor University, qualifying for departmental honors. He received his law degree from the William H. Bowen School of Law of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He graduated with honors and was an editor of the UALR Law Journal.
